Uganda Cricket today declared the final lineup that will represent the nation in the T20 World Cup 2024, hosted by the USA and West Indies next month. After a good showing in the qualifiers, where they edged Zimbabwe, among other strong African teams, the team is now set to prepare for a tough outing in Group C. They have been placed in Group A, alongside co-hosts West Indies and other top-ranking New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Afghanistan teams.

The other players who will constitute the team are Brian Masaba, the captain, and the deputy skipper, the Pakistan-born Riazat Ali Shah. This duo from the leadership brings much international experience to the field. Noteworthy in the squad is Frank Nsubuga, who, at 43 years of age, has finally appeared as one of those veterans of these tournaments and a highly respected figure within the emerging nations of cricket.

During the 1997 ICC Trophy, a precursor to the 1999 World Cup, Frank Nsubuga first announced himself at the tender age of 17. Until today, Nsubuga continues to give fans and critics something to cheer about, most recently making the news with a stunning boundary catch during a match of the Cricket World Cup Challenge League against Kenya in 2022.

There are also other standout performers for the Uganda cricket team, predominantly as spin-bowling all-rounders, like Alpesh Ramjani, a 2023 ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year nominee.

Last year, Ramjani led the T20I wickets tally in men’s cricket by taking 55 wickets, and that too at an economy of below five runs. Henry Ssenyondo played massively well throughout the season and managed to capture 49 wickets; he will come in handy to tighten the defense, bearing in mind that he is part of the batting lineup with the best hitting of the ball.

Here is the full squad that will represent Uganda Cricket at the T20 World Cup in 2024:

Uganda Squad: Brian Masaba (c), Simon Ssesazi, Roger Mukasa, Cosmas Kyewuta, Dinesh Nakrani, Fred Achelam, Kenneth Waiswa, Alpesh Ramjani, Frank Nsubuga, Henry Ssenyondo, Bilal Hassan, Robinson Obuya, Riazat Ali Shah (vc), Juma Miyaji, Ronak Patel.

This squad reflects a diverse talent pool and strong depth in Uganda’s cricket, which the country will draw from for a notable impact at the tournament. As we all count down to the game, every eye is set upon Uganda cricket as the preparations are underway to exhibit their skill sets at one of the prime forums of the world. The Cricket Cranes are not taking part; they are all set to challenge the regular norms and set new standards for African cricket.
